ABOUT THE FILM
Man vs. Woman takes place on a desolate dry planet which was once a thriving Earth colony, but is now just an abandoned wasteland inhabited by nomadic humans, artificial intelligence, and a variety of creatures. The film tells the story of one particular duel in the desert, a climactic encounter between four scavengers who could have been hand-picked from various branches of science-fiction: A beat-up but heavily armed robot, a hungry cloned velociraptor, a tough vixen carrying a plasma gun which is almost out of power, and a lone warrior with a shotgun that just ran out of ammo.
Inspired by the westerns of Sergio Leone, the characters in the film fight over one item in particular. Whereas Leone's gunslingers fought for gold and money, the characters in Man vs. Woman fight for something that we often take for granted; something that we normally do not treasure, until we are in dire need of it... water. Water is for them a precious juice of life, and they hunt for it the way characters in the Mad Max movies hunted for gasoline.
Tiffany Shepis and Robert Reavis play the lead roles, while the rest of the "cast" is made up of virtual characters. The technology at their fingertips is at once primitive, modern and futuristic; but none of it works very well. It is trashed and dirty, unreliable, often malfunctioning. It simply has been sitting out in the sun for too long.
The fight goes all out and it is to the death. All weapons are fair game, and one in particular makes an unexpected appearance. It is one of the ultimate weapons known to man... sex. The film is ultimately an observation on man-woman relations, and it explores the age-old question "who is really in power?". But there's actually more to the story.
One day I hope to get financing to shoot the feature-length version of the film. The short's 14 minutes are actually the first 14 minutes of the full-length movie. The events we witness are just the start of something bigger. In the meantime, enjoy Man vs. Woman.
